Smile Wider With Invisalign

Growing up I had a slight overbite and it seemed like everyone had braces, everyone but me.  I used to tell my best friend that she was lucky to have braces - that was until I saw pieces of food stuck between the metal brackets.

I soon realized by her constantly asking the same questions after lunch:

“Do I have anything stuck?" or "Do you see anything?"

she had become a little self-conscious and there were moments I became embarrassed for her.

When you're a kid it's hard not to laugh at orange pulp stuck in a bracket or a random rubber band popping out of someone's mouth.

I remember the times she would arrive to school late after having an orthodontist appointment. She'd explain that she just had her braces tightened.  You could tell by the look on her face that she was in pain.  Sometimes it hurt so bad she could barely talk or eat.

She was so excited when she had her braces removed and I was happy for her. However, I wondered how long the glue residue would stay on her teeth.

I decided at that time that braces were not for me.  I may have had an overbite, but at least my teeth were stain free. I was now considering myself lucky.

A few years later, I made the decision to fix my "bucky" smile and thanks to the advancement in orthodontia technology, this was successfully accomplished not by wearing metal braces, but by a clear removable aligner.

Invisalign for adults and teens are new alternatives to braces for roughly the same cost, but here's the thing, there are no wires or brackets required!

Find out more information on cost and insurance coverage here.

Invisalign works by using a series of virtually invisible and removable aligners that gradually move teeth over time. There are fewer office visits, shorter appointments and no "emergency" visits for broken or loose wires and brackets.  Many patients notice improvement within 90 days.  Visit this page for more details on How Invisalign Works.

Although the aligners should be worn 20-22 hours each day, a major benefit of Invisalign is the device is removable. You can brush and floss your teeth normally, not to mention eat whatever foods you enjoy.

I recently asked my 15 year old daughter if she would have rather had Invisalign Teen and what was the worst thing about having traditional braces.  I must admit, I wasn't completely surprised by her response:

"Yes and the worse thing was not being able to eat candy, popcorn or chew gum."

I guess she forgot about applying wax on the brackets to reduce the irritation on her checks and how long it took her to floss.
